Creative Writing

Over the last two weeks in inquiry we have been learning about what plants need to grow and the life cycle of a plant. This week, we imagined we were the plant and wrote about a day in the life of a seed.  The children use picture plants to guide their writing. The children have five goals for their writing that they focus on during the week which they tick off once they think they have achieved this goal. Here is the beginning of our story...

  1. Hello Papatuanuku,
We are a class of Year 1 learners at Makaraka School in Gisborne. How old are you?
We have been learning about seeds too. We are going to be drawing pictures about our seeds too! We are Ruaumoko class... do you know anything about the name Ruaumoko?

  2. Kia ora Ruaumoko
We are Year 2/3 learners so there are children in our studio who are 6,7 and 8 years old. We would love to learn about what your name Ruaumoko means - is it something to do with earthquakes!
We can't wait to see your seed pictures. We will leave some comments on your blog.

    1. Kia ora Papatūānuku,
Thank you for your reply! We are happy to tell you about Ruaumoko. One thing about Ruaumoko is that he is a Māori god. He is the God of earthquakes and volcanoes. This is to do with 'tectonic plates' when the land connects and pushes itself up like a mountain.
We are still adding to our seed pictures and we will post them on our blog when we are finished. Thank you for saying you will comment on our blog. We love seeing comments.
Thank you from Ruaumoko @ Makaraka School in Gisborne
