Bridge Challenge Round Two!

Well done Teri, Millah, Maia and Aaliyah. Today their bridge managed to hold 25 books! I like the way you worked together as a team and reflected on what you did last week to make your work better.

Ōtautahi Crafters

Last term Elizabeth worked with a bunch of enthusiastic students from Papatūānuku on the Red Zone project.

Their challenge was to innovate parts of the red zone.  They interviewed children from Rāwhiti School and got a lot of ideas.  They brought these ideas to life using Minecraft.

All the students have been busy blogging about their learning.  Check out their blogs below:

Ukulele Group

This is our Ukulele group. We practice every afternoon.

Faolan says this is the greatest thing to do at school. Lexie says it is very fun! Skyla says it is the most fun thing in the world. Jaz says you don't need to know how to play you can watch ukulele clips online. Hunter says we get better every day and learning the chords is hard. Aaliyah says it is really fun but it hurts your fingers.

Thanks for watching our video we hope you like it. Please comment below if you have any questions. We will try hard to reply to you, like rockstars do!

Magnet Research!

The tamariki in our writing group are turning into great little researchers.
This week we are continuing our work with magnets and gathering new ideas on what we can do with them. Did you know that you can paint a picture using the pull and push force of a magnet? These children discovered that you can paint a picture by using magnets and metals by researching on the iPads. They are so excited to try this out for themselves on Thursday and create a masterpiece to share with everyone!
I can't wait to see what they make. #Learn#Create#Share

Giving compliments

This week we are focused on giving and receiving compliments. This is Jasper and George being fantastic actors (and Caleb's excellent recording skills) showing us how easy it is to give a nice compliment to someone!

Our challenge this week is to give at least two compliments a day and watch how happy it makes the other person.

Travis's Holiday

Timezone
FUN

On the first Wednesday of the second school holidays of 2019. Me, Charlie and Mum went to Riccarton Timezone to play lots of fun arcade games. The first game we played was Deal or No Deal. Next we played a game where you have a water squirter and you have to shoot the fish with the water gun and you can get power-ups. Then we played a game that you drop a ball and it bounces into a hole and it has a number on it and the number says how many tickets you get. Then we went to the ticket counter and we got 80 tickets and we got a Freddo  chocolate and two blue slinkys.

Addison's Holiday

My Holiday On Wednesday me, Spencer and Dad went to the mall. The first thing we did was go to The Warehouse. Then we went to the movies to watch The Lion King. It was awesome! I loved the part where he got held up. After that we went to my friends house to get a little log for my fairy house. It was a great day.

Last week we celebrated Matariki with a great afternoon on Thursday. Leanne made us some yummy soup using vegetables donated by our parents as well as the pumpkin we grew in the school garden. There were lots of arts and crafts being made, a big thank you to the whānau who came and helped and joined us for the afternoon. Here are some Matariki Stars and kites we made.

Forest Survivor

Forest Survivor Trip!

How lucky are we to be so close to our very own forest! As part of our inquiry we visited Bottle Lake Forest and took part in the Forest Survivor. One of the things we had to do was make a hut as a team just in case we ever found ourselves lost in the forest and needed to keep warm. We had a great time creating these huts together and if we ever did get lost we now know what to do!

The Gardening Group.

This year we have been doing lots of things in the school veggie garden. We have eaten some lovely apples, pears, feijoas and strawberries. We even used our pumpkins for the soup we made for the Matariki Celebration. This term we have been tidying up the garden beds and getting them ready for new planting closer to spring. Last week Mary from Orchards in Schools came to school to show us how to prune our fruit trees.

Writing with Brogan and Louise - Forest Week

What an amazing week of writing with Brogan and Louise, we have been learning about forests close to us. The children had a great prior knowledge of forests, some children even knew that forests in other countries had bears! Have a look at our work from forest week and please comment below on our work, we love it when you comment, it helps motivate us to share more each week.

Protect our important places.

Riley made a poster to help us remember about protecting the places we think are important.

Mindfulness this week, week 1...

Mindful breathing

This week in mindfulness we focused on the importance of deep breathing. By noticing our breathing, it can help us calm down and help us relax. This week we made our own mindfulness breathing tool. This tool is kept in our tote trays and we can get this in times of feeling stressed, anxious or just needing a moment to draw attention to our breathing and relax. It helps us to notice our breathing and make sure we are taking long, deep breaths. We had a great time making these and our room was covered in glitter and sparkles!

The task set to us had only three musts;

I must use a popsicle stick
I must use a feather
I must be able to blow air into it and see the feather move

The rest was up to us to use our imagination!

Below are some of our creative minds at work. Tell us what you think by making a comment below, we love it when you comment on our work.
